Replay: Meet The Maker with Kevin O’Gorman, Midleton Distillery’s Master Distiller
What a special Meet The Maker event this was!
Midleton Master Distiller Kevin O'Gorman invited us behind the scenes (after the gates closed) to visit some very special locations in Midleton Distillery that are off limits to the general public.
The event
Kevin and Barry kicked off our Meet The Maker event by sharing a drop of Kevin's own Midleton Very Rare 2022 live from the bar of the Midleton Academy building, they chatted about how Kevin chooses the whiskeys that make up each vintage and shared details of how the various woods and casks are managed to yield very different results across the whiskey portfolio.
We then walked to the famed and off-limits Warehouse A2, where the Silent Distillery Casks are maturing, where the oldest whiskeys in the distillery sleep (including future Redbreast Dream Casks) and where the earmarked casks for future Midleton Very Rare releases reside.
Here in Warehouse A2, we sampled Silent Distillery Chapter Three together - a 47 year old Single Pot Still Whiskey while Kevin shared the history of old Midleton Distillery, how the Silent Distillery Collection came about, how it's put together and chatted about how it ties in with the 200th anniversary of the Midleton Distillery in 2025.
It's not often you get a chance to tour one of the most prized warehouse in one of Ireland's most famous distilleries so be sure to watch our replay video below.
It was one of the most special nights we've ever had in the Whiskey Club and will take a lot to beat it!
