Aqua Vitae, The Liberator Irish whiskey, Green Spot Chateau Montelena: Lock-in Livestream

June 30, 2020

Join Barry Chandler, founder and host of Stories & Sips every Friday live on Facebook and YouTube at 7pm EST/4pm PST.

Each week Barry opens up a few different Irish whiskeys and invites a guest or two to join for conversation and craic.

The Lock-in Livestream is a great chance to raise a glass to our health, one another and another week under our belt.

Irish whiskey brings people together. Each Friday 1000s of Irish whiskey fans come together in one place – the Lock-in Livestream. Mark your calendar for this weekly celebration of all things Irish whiskey.

Who invented whiskey? The Irish? The Scots? The Moors?

This week I’m joined by Chris Hennessy, co-founder of a company that has resurrected the historic recipe of the first recorded mention of Aqua Vitae, the water of life (Uisce Beatha) to create a modern day version of this spirit. Chris is an oracle of knowledge on all things Irish whiskey.

I’ve yet to pose a question to Chris on even the most obscure elements of Irish whiskey that he hasn’t been able to answer extensively. So, in addition to having Chris share the stories and sips of his Aqua Vitae, we play “Catch Chris Out” where I spring random bottles and whiskeys (from all eras) on Chris and challenge him to share obscure, non-publicly-known information about the maturation, mash bills, distillery etc. So, think of the most difficult questions to pose to Chris during our livestream and we’ll see if we can stump him. I’m not sure we can but it will be great craic trying.

Additionally, we’ll be sipping on the wonderful The Liberator from Wayward Irish Spirits – we may even have an appearance from its creator Maurice O’Connell – and Green Spot Chateau Montelena from Mitchell & Son Wine Merchants.

Irish whiskeys sipped this week:

  • Aqua Vitae
  • The Liberator Irish whiskey
  • Green Spot Chateau Montelena

Guests this week:

Mark Cooney, principal bartender at The Library Cocktail bar in the Detroit Club shares some amazing Irish whiskey cocktails live on our broadcast. Martin Kennedy, co-founder of the newly-launched Bua Irish Whiskey shares the story behind his new company and whiskey and we taste it live. My three drinks this week will be Crested Irish Whiskey from Jameson, Bua Irish Whiskey and a Jameson Black Barrel Old Fashioned cocktail.

Sláinte.
