Waterford Whisky, West Cork Distillers & Terroir : Lock-in Livestream

We welcomed a stellar lineup of guests and whiskeys for this week’s Lock-in.

Mark Reynier, whisky industry trailblazer and founder of Waterford Distillery, joined us to chat about the ground breaking Whisky Terroir Project – an innovative study into the effects “terroir” – climate, soil, place and environmental conditions have on single malt whisky at Waterford.

Mark spent years working in the wine industry before purchasing the abandoned Bruichladdich distillery in Scotland and turning it into one of Scotland most progressive and pioneering distilleries. Since 2015, Mark has been focused on producing the “most flavorful liter of alcohol” possible on the banks of the River Suir in Waterford using locally sourced barley that’s individually grown, malted, brewed, distilled and matured.

Mark is a passionate believer in the approach to whisky making being undertaken at Waterford and you’ll see his passion spill through the screen on this week’s Lock-in replay.

As if that wasn’t enough for one week, we also welcomed Alex Thibault, whiskey industry veteran and National Brand Manager in the United States for West Cork Distillers, another innovative distillery on Ireland’s south coast.

Alex shared a few of his favorite whiskeys from the West Cork portfolio, told us how West Cork Distillers approaches whiskey making and explained the impact this distillery has had on the town of Skibbereen in West Cork and the surrounding areas.
