Replay: Meet The Maker: Carl O’Grady & Clare Island Single Malt

May 11, 2022

Alan, Clare, Patricia, Brian and Carl O’Grady with their father, Chris, on board The Dolphin with the first barrel of Clare Island Whiskey

Carl O’ Grady, born and raised on Clare Island off Ireland's West Coast, has turned his vision into a stunning reality–the first ever Irish Single Malt aged lovingly by the sea. Its unique cask-bearer, a boat dubbed The Dolphin, was reworked after its unfortunate sinking in the year 2000 after its 30-year service to his family. Now, it cruises over the waters of Clare Island bearing a single cargo, a cask of single malt make spirit from the Connacht Distillery in Ballina. Aged by the gentle sea breeze and the tang of salt air, this sea borne spirit offers an experience you’ll never forget.

Carl joined us for a Meet The Maker chat and shared the history of the island, his vision for its future, the single malt project he dreamed up and the plans for a distillery, maturation warehouse and barley fields on the island. It was a remarkable storytelling session. Carl also generously gave us a 20 Euro discount code off the purchase of a bottle of Clare Island Single Malt Batch 2 which you'll find below together with the replay.
