Replay: Meet The Maker – Nick Ryan, Founder of Thomond Gate Whiskey
“Thomond Gate Whiskey is Limerick’s first whiskey brand in 100 years and it’s my goal to bring heritage pot still whiskey back to Limerick. We have meticulously searched the Limerick archives to source and recreate a spirit, which was enjoyed by our previous generations.”
These are the words of Nick Ryan, founder of the much-talked about, quick-selling Thomond Gate Whiskey. Nick has a vision for his home county and city and is building on a rich history of distilling in the city on the River Shannon.
In our December Meet The Maker event, Nick shares the history of Limerick distilling, how he arranged the growing of the first whiskey-destined barley in the county in more than a century and how he thinks about building a range of whiskeys. He may also commit to a Whiskey Club bottling!
Thomond Gate Whiskeys combine modern distilling approaches tied to a rich historical narrative. His whiskeys take us on a journey around Europe and the United States through the use of certain wooden casks and stories of the Irish people that played pivotal roles in the countries that they made their home.
